History of the centre
Learn about us
The Wiichihiiwewin Centre of Waskaganish, Inc. (WWC) was founded through the dedication of Dave and Greta Cheechoo, respected community members known for their work in social services and mental health throughout the Cree Nation.
For many years, they provided counselling, workshops, and support from their own home, creating a welcoming space where no one was turned away. Their commitment to helping those experiencing hardship, grief, or personal challenges inspired a larger vision to expand these much-needed services.
Through planning and community support, WWC was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2018 and later became a registered charity in 2021. Today, the Centre continues their mission of providing compassion, healing, and support for individuals and families across Eeyou Istchee.
